Creating URL aliases

Apr 26, 2014 7:49 pm

URL aliases are URLs with short, simple names that redirect to a specified page on a website. These are useful because they usually look neater than full URLs and are easier to remember. Rather than telling people to visit http://www.my-site.com/index.php?src=events&category=Trainings, for example, you could tell them to visit http://www.my-site.com/trainings. The short URL in this example would direct visitors to the longer one.

To set up a URL alias:

  1. Go to the Configuration Module, Human Readable URLs tab.
  2. Click the Create a URL Alias button.
  3. Enter a name in the Alias Name field.
  4. You can either manually enter a URL in the URL field or use the Link Wizard by clicking the Change/Add button. Click here for information on using the Link Wizard.
  5. Click Save.
