As the temperature drops and the leaves begin to change, one thing is very clear—fall is finally here! And on the Accrisoft blog, that means it's time for our annual roundup of the 10 best economic development websites of 2015.
We looked through hundreds of sites to make our final selections. While searching for the very best, we noticed several design elements that seemed to be trending among EDO sites.
What's trending on economic development websites in 2015:
- Bright colors (we're seeing lots of blues, greens, oranges)
- Use of transparency for captions, navigation and other text containers
- Huge images with interesting treatments (filters, color overlays, etc.)
- Animations and micro-interactions

The WDCEP website grabs your attention with a video background and animated headlines. Below the header, you can toggle between different sections of content that are organized by industry.
The full-page image rotator allows Valparaiso Economic Development Corp to showcase high-resolution photography of the region and its top industries.
The San Jose website's use of neon green is bold and bright, but it still looks very professional. Other great features of this website include the static photo background and the pop-out menu.
Stunning photography takes center stage on the modern web design for South Bend Region. Unique caption boxes and hover effects add tons of personality to this site.
This website features gorgeous photography, a clean layout and great use of whitespace. We love the color palette of warm red and yellow paired with pale blue.
Alpharetta's website uses vibrant, color-treated images to create an energizing look and feel. As you scroll down the site, you'll notice some great animations.
The Vermilion Economic Development Alliance website does a fantastic job of pairing bold, flat colors with a beautiful photo background.
This economic development website is actually part of a 5-in-1 hub site for Clarksville, Tennessee.
The Vail Valley Economic Development website uses vector patterns and subtle patterns to add some extra interest to its flat design elements.
